The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU)
ALTER-EU believes that the code of conduct for MEPs that was approved by the Conference of Presidents today is an important step forward to avoid ethics scandals involving MEPs
it remains to be seen whether future presidents of the Parliament and the new MEP advisory committee – with whom enforcement of the new code will rest – will be prepared to get tough on fellow MEPs who fail to comply with the spirit and letter of the new rules.

On the eve of a critical meeting of the Buzek working group to discuss new ethics rules for the European Parliament, ALTER-EU and Transparency International issued a joint call for a robust code of conduct for MEPs.
