This survey shows which lobbying consultancies have so far registered on the European Commission’s Register of Interest Representatives and which firms are still missing. Almost two years after the European Commission launched the register, sixty per cent of EU lobbying consultancies are still not registered.
We surveyed all consultancies providing EU lobbying services that we could identify, including law firms providing lobbying services. We compiled our ‘long list’ using publicly available data from the European Commission’s Register of Interest Representatives and the European Parliament's list of accredited lobbyists, supplemented with information from existing lists of EU lobbying consultancies, a.o. the European Public Affairs Directory and a list maintained by EurActiv.
We checked each firm on our ‘long list’ on the following points:
- is the company registered on the European Commission’s Register of Interest Representatives ?
- is the company listed as having accredited lobbyists at the European Parliament ?
- is the company a member of the European Public Affairs Consultancies’ Association (EPACA) ?
- is at least one employee of the company a member of the Society of European Affairs Professionals (SEAP) ?
The survey was conducted in the first week of March 2010.
