Executive summary / policy recommendations:

ALTER-EU has today published its assessment of the Barroso II Commission. Entitled 'Talking the talk, but not walking the walk', the assessment analyses Commission progress in four key areas: lobby transparency, revolving doors, advisory groups and access to documents. In all four areas, while small progress has been made, ALTER-EU finds that significant action is still required to achieve full lobby transparency and ethics regulation.

ALTER-EU's Politics for People campaign sets out an ambitious agenda for reform in these areas and it is asking MEP candidates to pledge to “stand-up for citizens and democracy against the excessive lobbying influence of banks and big business”. Over 500 candidates have already pledged their support and the campaign has the support of over 50 organisations in 19 EU member states.
