European Commission announces new ethic code in wake of conflict-of-interest scandals

The European Commission has agreed to a new code of conduct for top officials in the wake of a series of conflict-of-interest scandals, but was criticised by anti-corruption groups for not going far enough.

Erik Wesselius, of the anti-corruption group Alter-EU, said that the new code was "disappointing".

"We have campaigned for the period to be three years the same length of time that commissioners receive their transitional allowances," he said.
