Parliament president Jerzy Buzek has said that a proposed code of conduct for MEPs will do much to boost public confidence in the institution.

Excerpt:

Buzek described the group's conclusions as "a significant improvement to the status quo", saying they were aimed at clarifying "how elected MEPs should fulfil their obligations".

Alter-EU spokesman Paul de Clerck said the new code "is an important step forward, although more work will be needed in the future to tighten the rules further".
