Our steering committee

ALTER-EU is governed by a steering committee whose members are:

Helen Darbishire, Access Info Europe: Helen[at]access-info.org

On steering committee since 2011. A human rights and democracy activist specialising in the public's right of access to information (freedom of information). Founder and Executive Director of the Madrid-based NGO Access Info Europe, established in 2006. Also on the boards of Fundación Civio (Spain), DATA (Uruguay), Diritto di Sapere (Italy), and the Request Initiative (UK).

Paul de Clerck, Friends of the Earth Europe: Paul.declerck[at]foeeurope.org

On steering committee since 2005. Since 2008, the coordinator of the Economic Justice Program at Friends of the Earth Europe, which includes work on transparency, corporate lobbying and ethics. Co-founder of ALTER-EU, Paul’s work mixes advocacy, research and public campaigning.

William Dinan, SpinWatch: Will[at]spinwatch.org

On steering committee since 2005. Academic, specialising in lobbying and political communication. Co-founder and director of Spinwatch (2004-present). Has provided expert advice on lobbying and transparency to OECD (2008-9) and evidence to European, Westminster and Scottish parliaments.

Olivier Hoedeman, Corporate Europe Observatory: Olivier[at]corporateeurope.org

On steering committee since 2015. Is the research and campaign co-ordinator at Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO). Co-founder of ALTER-EU, Hoedeman is a well-known expert on lobbying regulation, frequently speaking in public debates and interviewed in print media, radio and TV on these issues.

Nina Katzemich, LobbyControl: Nina.katzemich[at]lobbycontrol.de

On steering committee since 2009. Works for German NGO LobbyControl and is its expert on lobby regulation in Europe. Previously she was a scientific assistant in the German Parliament where she could watch lobbyism in reality.

Jorgo Riss, Greenpeace European Unit: Jorgo.riss[at]greenpeace.org

On steering committee since 2005. Directs Greenpeace’s European Unit since 2003, where he manages a team of policy, legal and communications experts, and advises directors of national Greenpeace offices in Europe on EU-focused advocacy.

Yuklan Wong, European Federation of Journalists: yuklan.wong[at]ifj.org

On steering committee since 2013. Is the policy and projects officer for the International/European Federation of Journalists since 2009. Involved in various European projects in promoting ethical journalism, media diversity and trade union rights
