The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU) is a coalition of over 160 civil society groups, trade unions, academics and public affairs firms concerned with the increasing influence exerted by corporate lobbyists on the political agenda in Europe, the resulting loss of democracy in EU decision-making and the postponement, weakening, or blockage even, of urgently needed progress on social, environmental and consumer-protection reforms.

The importance of effective implementation of the code, including clear definitions, became evident last week when a news medium reported that the CEO of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce intended to take the seat as MEP from March 1st, without giving up the job as chair of the lobby group.

Evidence suggests Dr Lönngren’s post employment activities with private pharmaceutical industry were arranged whilst being employed by EMA. His consultancy, Pharma Executive Consulting Ltd, was incorporated 2 months before he left EMA.

European Ombudsman demands EFSA admits failure on revolving door
