The UK Fraud Advisory Panel and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London are organising an afternoon seminar on 16 November 2012 on conflicts of interest. ALTER-EU's steering committee member William Dinan will speak about lobbies and conflicts of interest.
Although the online questionnaire reads more like a user's satisfaction survey, than a consultation about the register's effectiveness in bringing transparency, there is one good opportunity to give feedback in this respect. Help ALTER-EU to get real transparency!
The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU)
The EU Transparency Register, jointly launched by the European Commission and the Parliament a year ago, fails to give a full and accurate picture of lobbying activities in Brussels.
The joint transparency register launched by the European Commission and the European Parliament precisely 1 year ago is riddled with inaccuracies and gaps. A report released today by the pro-transparency group ALTER-EU says the voluntary register is failing to give a complete picture of lobbying in Brussels.
One year after the introduction of the European Union’s Transparency Register, analysis by the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU) suggests that although the number of lobbies now registered has increased, far too many active EU lobby players are still not on the list.
"In April 2012, in a joint publication, the EU Civil Society Contact Group (CSCG) and ALTER-EU not only cited fundamental flaws with the Transparency Register but indicated that their members would be adopting a higher standard of protection by way of recommendation."
